Doors and bathrooms have been high on the agenda today. Getting the bathroom bits and bobs sorted just takes ages. Glad to report I’ve ordered tiles, loos and a sink today. Good.
The doors upstairs need to be chosen. Ideally I would get exactly the same as the downstairs doors made to match but that would be pricey and every penny counts at this stage of the regeneration. There is a search on for the best match to the downstairs doors, off the shelf as it were, we’ll see how it goes. The other door issues involve choosing where the new door in the front bedroom will be and whether the old bathroom door will do size regulation wise – the good news is it will be fine, phew.
The plasterers have been doing their stuff above the stair, they had an elaborate plank, ladder and baton scenario to reach all the way up there beside my lovely skylights. There is another smooth and delightful curve at the top of the stairs, it looks superb.

That’s all folks, off to play with my new gadget. It does begin with an ‘i’.
The final bits of insulation and plasterboard that can be put up before the windows come are up. Gibby was doing a solo stint for quite a while today, it was very quiet up there. I’m not posting any pictures of upstairs today, I’m going to just show you some bits and bobs instead.
It was getting really drafty in the hall and the bedrooms with the stairs in place but no windows upstairs. This is a curtain to another world at the moment, and it keeps the heat in downstairs a bit too. Amazing what you can do with a dust sheet and my grandma’s old pink woollen blanket. I’m hoping we won’t really need it for much longer. The kids call it the magic curtain, I like that.
the magic curtain
There has been a wee magic fairy leaving messages on the plasterboard too, just such a magical place beyond the curtain indeed.

This old table lamp is one of those things that has always been around and I’m not even sure if I like it or it is so familiar that I can’t dislike it. The wire was fabulous, it was two twisted thread covered cords; nice to look at but probably not very safe. I’ve had it made safe with a boring old white wire but at least it’s not a fire hazard now. I think I will look out for a more colourful shade or at least a neutral one, it’s not so brown when it’s lit so I’ll take my time to find the right one.

My mind has started to seriously wonder to the day when we consider decor. In fact it has been wondering there for a long, long time since we knew we were moving here. I ordered lots of wallpaper samples at the weekend, this one is just right, not sure where it will go but I’m determined to use it somewhere. No prizes for guessing who designed it.
big flowers (a bit washed out colour wise)
H came home with this today, it’s definitely a ‘keep’. So lovely that she has had the chicks in her classroom. Her jaggy chick is brilliant isn’t it. Not biased me.

……told you it would be bits and bobs today….
This last photo is to tell you that I had the Dyson man round today and I am so thrilled to report that these two beauties actually work now so my Friday dust eradication ritual will be quicker and more effective tomorrow. The big one’s clutch had gone (eh?) and was making the loudest most horrendous noise when you had it on. Now it is back to its former glory, now all they need is cleaned externally from all the dust.

Right then, that’s the random post over, hope you enjoyed it. x
p.s. I had my 100th comment yesterday, thanks so much to all of you who have been popping in to see how the regeneration is going, I really appreciate it. Keep the comments coming, I love reading them.x
That’s us at seven weeks now, wow, this week has really flown in. New stairs, lights decided on, windows organised, skeleton walls with some solid plasterboard up. The progress is incredible if you look back at these.
Friday afternoons have evolved a new ritual recently, the clear up for the weekend. The hall goes through a huge dust removal procedure (extreme hoovering) and the bathroom gets cleaned and given its weekend look. The colours in the mat are brilliant.

We have some new improved dogs today, I always forget how funny they look when they’ve been clipped. I think they look at little embarassed – what do you think?

There’s a bit of a running theme going on here this weekend, F is doing a sponsored run tomorrow and C is doing a half marathon on Sunday. The closest thing to running I’ll be doing is running after them I suspect. Good on them though.
Just took this picture of Lucy relaxing, she’s so funny.
All that’s left to say is have a fabulous weekend x
