Japanese Maple or Acer
Japanese Maple or Acer

This amazing Acer caught my eye when I went to check up on the guinea pigs this morning, the colour has changed to the most vibrant bright reddish pink almost overnight.  It’s in a pot and has had a couple of ropy phases since the bad snow years,  so glad to see it in full magnificence again.

The Regeneration

The ‘middle’ room is to get the floorboards done at the same time as the hall and, since it’s empty, we have decided to go for it and change the wall colour too.  When the sun is shining it is a beautifully light room and those windows are amazing, they let light all the way through to the hall.  It can be quite dark though because of the green damask print wallpaper which I quite like actually but it does not fit with the way I’d like it to look. Light, bright and fresh is what I’m thinking with an array of colours coming from our belongings on the shelving.

Here’s how it looked last Friday before the mission to clear it out started, it had become a dump.  We all have our own little visions for this former dining room.  Playroom, study, music room, library, snug or games room, it is my goal to make sure it stays a bit more organised and pleasant to visit, whatever it is used for.

no idea how I got this effect - this is how full the room was last weekend

This is how it looks right now, as I type. Imagine me sitting on that hideous red chair, which will not be coming back in, if I can help it.

Friday 15 Nov 2013 – note the stain samples

There should be a new version to show you on Monday, this weekend is painting weekend, once we decide on a colour.  There is a beautiful blue in my mind’s eye but who knows what colour you’ll see in the after photo.

Friday Treat

My promise to H yesterday was that we would make chocolate crispies with her friend when she came to play. Yum, hope there’s one left for me.

Well, I wish you a super weekend, think of me in my painting gear doing my stuff (and procrastinating no doubt), x

26 September 2013

Glad you’re still here reading, I know it’s been a while.  Life seems to have been on fast mode lately, I’ve hardly had time to stop and smell the roses let alone take photos of them.

The Regeneration is very frustrating, all those little thing that need done are still there and now it is getting colder again they really need sorted.  The windows need handles and the heating has ‘issues’, the ensuite needs to be painted (that’s my job) and some flooring.  I just won’t mention the mess AGAIN or the doorbell that no longer rings…

Something that I am glad to show you is the legendary dresser, back in one piece after about 20 years, the men worked round it the whole build and it finally made its way down the stairs some time ago.  A paint job is needed, but I am seriously chuffed that I kept it much to everyone’s disdain, my sister excepted.

Another minor development is this little spot outside the garden room. Clearing all the weeds and sorting it all out took me ages the other weekend, I’ve not quite managed to sit there soaking up the Autumn sun with a cuppa and a cake yet but there’s still time.

Other Stuff

This fine specimen was spotted at the school where F does drama lessons at the weekend, the building is straight out of Harry Potter though it’s not the school that is reputed to have inspired Ms Rowling.  I couldn’t resist him.

We’ve had a birthday in the bungalow and here’s the cake, it’s really not great but my ‘minecraft boy’ did the face himself and he loved it.  There was a lot of fuss about who got the precious black bits, eugh.

Since the discovery of Instagram,  my SLR has been rather redundant. I wonder if  the novelty will wear off once the light changes and winter is with us.  Do you still carry a camera and use your phone I wonder?  My October plan is to get my trusty old Canon out with the 50mm lens and get snapping.

Finally,  this came through the door today with Elle Decoration, I am reliably informed that it is only 90 days to go. That’s a thought…

This is the week I’m going to get the show back on the road with the regeneration and get organised with, well, everything.  The running around to find the right sock will always happen, that’s for sure but I need to give myself more of a chance of finding it quickly. Organisation is going to be my new best friend, it will give me peace of mind and some of my time back.

Apple Picking

Yesterday was a funny old day, the thing that made me smile was this gorgeous arrangement that my niece did using apples she had caught from the tree using her Bapa’s apple picking equipment. H and K spent ages with it, perfecting their technique and making my sister and me laugh and laugh.  It’s a stick, with a net basically.

Instagram

Instagram is just brilliant fun, isn’t it.  I like the feeling of taking a quick snap and making it better by using the effects, in a matter of moments.  It reminds me of the Polaroid camera I had many moons ago, but better, you had to take what you got with the instant print that popped out of the camera.  The pictures today are all Instagram ones.

Yes, I am still loving the wallpaper.
