Day Sixty-One

There’s grey grout in those tiles upstairs now and the en-suite shower tray has been installed along with a rather handsome tap on the dinky sink.

Other Stuff

I’m feeling pretty austerity virtuous this tea time. I was going to ‘nip’ into the local massive supermarket on the way home but I decided to avoid it to save the inevitable £25 spend on things you did not know you needed.  Next stop the fridge and bread bin, I used up so many odd items for tea it was great – the children had vegetable soup and eggy bread (using the last of the Valvona and Crolla bread from the farmers’ market) followed by mini banana and white choc cakes made with 2 really really old black bananas I couldn’t quite throw away.  The flavour was amazing since they were so ripe. Yum.  What’s even better is that it’s not pay-day til Thursday so the last coppers will last a bit longer now.  Don’t think I could get another day out of what’s there but you never know…

Might have to have a look here to get inspired – love food hate waste.

Day Fifty-Nine

What an absolutely fantastic sunny day we’ve had here in Edinburgh today, so welcome after a rather windy wild week.  Long may it continue.

It’s been a quiet day at the house, the bannister is finished now.  The garden room and the kitchen have had a big blitz too – sorely needed and it is now a pleasure to be in the back part of the house.

Day Fifty-Eight

The upstairs bathroom is being tiled and it is looking brilliant, we’re going for grey grout up there for a tiny change from downstairs.  Got a wee bit of a tight space  issue with a shower screen/curtain.  It’ll need some lateral thinking, we have a sloped ceiling, rooflight and a unit to contend with.  Sure we’ll come up with a plan.

The bannister supplies have arrived and have started to be put in, not something you realise will take lots of thought and time to do properly, but it does.

Here’s how the upstairs landing is looking right now.  H is  going into the bathroom.

The upstairs toilet has been removed for the flooring to go in tomorrow and it feels like we are so nearly there upstairs.  The radiators have arrived,  I’ve fancied them for so long but could never justify changing old ones for. Photo soon, they’re gorgeous – if a radiator could be gorgeous that is.

The house is just so dusty it’s not true, no amount of hoovering or quick wiping can get rid of it because every day there’s more dust created.  Looking forward to getting over that stage but otherwise I’m still thoroughly enjoying the regeneration process that is happening in this old bungalow.  We should be reaping the benefits pretty soon – better stop procrastinating about the painting…….
