Day Twenty-Seven

Back to normal service today, busy busy yesterday so no chat.  The scaffolding has gone at the back which is great. I was tempted to use it as a bonus washing line last week when it was so sunny.  The sun decided not to come out today, look how grey the sky is.

The space for the bed at the back is free of insulation now and we have measured it again.  Looks like it’s plenty  wide enough – hooray – panic over.  The hole you can see will be a bookshelf inset into the wall which will be handy and give that wee bit extra feeling of space next to the bed.   Nearly all the perimeter has been insulated now and the stairs should be here quite soon.  The windows are ordered and a wee bonus that I’ll show you another time.  The extra Velux is  here too and works on the new bathroom have resumed.  I love a bath but I am missing having a shower, especially on work days.  Tiles and flooring are being researched at the moment and I even glanced at wallpaper and paint the other day.

Other Stuff

I’ve been meaning to tell you about what I made of Friday for days now. Aubergine Parmigiana is one of those dishes that is so much more than the sum of its parts (or ingredients).  I used  Sarah’s recipe as a starting point,  http://www.viewfromthetable.co.uk/2012/07/pimp-that-veg.html . I used mozzarella as a layer and the parmesan type cheese on top.  Absolutely delicious. We had ours with crusty bread and green salad.

not the most photogenic dish but tastes brilliant

I notice the view from the table uses only a corner shot for the photo, very clever.  Don’t be put off by how it looks, make it, you’ll be glad you did. x

p.s. If you like woolly tights, Tesco has loads of colours and spotty ones half price at the moment.  Random, I know, apologies.

Day Twenty-Five

We have more evidence of actual rooms today, the insulation and plasterboard have formed a wee cupboard and the suggestion of walls too.   Very exciting but the space is still shrinking…..we were upstairs at the weekend measuring and laying out planks to see exactly where the rooms will be.  The front two are bigger than I expected but we are worried about our bed fitting in where we want it in the back room.   Hmmmm.  We will sort it out I’m sure.  Here’s today’s evidence:-

H had her hair cut at a fab place on Saturday, they have a fairground carousel horse or a quad bike for the children to sit on and a telly right in front of them.  It works.  The staff are so friendly and used to dealing with nervous kids with their neurotic (or otherwise) parents.  We then went for some messages and ended up choosing  some lovely flower packs from the supermarket, I love Ranunculus. Being in Morningside we of course visited the great Spektakular again, Pippi Longstocking is now in H’s library.  Superb choice, H.

These lovely flowers should be in bloom by June/July so I will be sure to show you them when they appear.  I love the idea of having an area in the garden for growing flowers to cut.  I would need to be very clever and plant them so we have flowers from early spring to early winter.   Maybe that’s a project to start this Autumn.

Now you’ve seen what has happened today, all outside action.  The dormers are finished except for the actual windows that is, they won’t be long.  The Velux windows are going in tomorrow, one in each of the front bedrooms, one for the bathroom and one above the stairs.  The stairs are being made right now too, at the other side of Edinburgh, near Ikea, if you’d like to know.

Little Green Shed is a blog I am sure to read every time there is a new post.  Here’s the link – http://littlegreenshed.blogspot.co.uk/.  I am delighted to have joined the ‘nature in the home’ series on the blog, it is exciting to be able to add a tiny part to such an inspiring blog.   Here is today’s contribution.

The pot of daffodils is from last year.  I left the pot at the back door with the intention of planting the bulbs outside at some point. They never did get planted and now here the little daffies are on my windowsill again, cheering the place up, for a second year.  Just as well they never made it into the earth outside, maybe this year when the flowers have all gone.
