Day Twenty-Five

We have more evidence of actual rooms today, the insulation and plasterboard have formed a wee cupboard and the suggestion of walls too.   Very exciting but the space is still shrinking…..we were upstairs at the weekend measuring and laying out planks to see exactly where the rooms will be.  The front two are bigger than I expected but we are worried about our bed fitting in where we want it in the back room.   Hmmmm.  We will sort it out I’m sure.  Here’s today’s evidence:-

H had her hair cut at a fab place on Saturday, they have a fairground carousel horse or a quad bike for the children to sit on and a telly right in front of them.  It works.  The staff are so friendly and used to dealing with nervous kids with their neurotic (or otherwise) parents.  We then went for some messages and ended up choosing  some lovely flower packs from the supermarket, I love Ranunculus. Being in Morningside we of course visited the great Spektakular again, Pippi Longstocking is now in H’s library.  Superb choice, H.

These lovely flowers should be in bloom by June/July so I will be sure to show you them when they appear.  I love the idea of having an area in the garden for growing flowers to cut.  I would need to be very clever and plant them so we have flowers from early spring to early winter.   Maybe that’s a project to start this Autumn.

The Smiths

The Smiths are a big deal in the bungalow.  They are a constant point of reference for us and quotes were used from them at our wedding. Morrissey is my husband’s musical hero and I have been (dragged) to see him several times. The best bit is always watching the diehards ripping his shirt to bits when he throws it into the crowd. I did put a rose on his car once in Perth when we were waiting for him to leave the building. Very intimate that performance in the Perth City Hall.

Anyway, follow these instructions from the man himself (husband not the Moz), can you see him? Look for his auburn locks.

Freeze at 0.51 and I am centre screen just below Morrissey’s left arm. The clip is from April 1987 on the Tube in Newcastle and this was the last time EVER that the Smiths performed live.

I have no idea how he came across this clip, I think I have spotted  him in the mosh . Pretty cool eh!

Day Twenty-Four

That’s five weeks down now, 4 new windows and 2 completed dormers this week.  We’re going to add an extra Velux window above the new stairs too next week.  The stairs are ordered and so are the windows for the dormer.  Progress indeed.

It feels like things are coming together, the perimeter of the upstairs will start to be boarded up next week.  Guessing the upstairs will shrink even more then.   It is hard to explain, but when you’re actually up there is does not feel big enough to have 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.  Once the space is more defined then it will be amazing to see the rooms develop and become more tangible.

We are coping fine with just a bath and toilet bathroom, best not to think about hand washing after the toilet where the children are concerned.  Wonder when the shower and screen will arrive.

The sun is shining on Edinburgh right now.  Long may it shine on you too.  Have a great weekend. x
