Day Nineteen

Four weeks done and boy can you see a difference.  Here are the highlights today:-

The back dormer has been prepped and the back section where the alarm was holding everything up is all sorted.

Loads of slates have been taken off at the back ready for the dormer to go in.

Still more invisible electrical work and plumbing done.  Some not so invisible like the 6 holes with wire tentacles coming out of them in the new bathroom.

We have bath taps, the children are looking forward to having a bath in a bedroom, as they see it.

The space where the stair used to be is nowhere to be seen any more.

There was another huge load of insulation on the drive today along with other bits and bobs.  The upstairs seems to be shrinking at the moment.

Have a look for yourself.

I’m very excited about going out for tea with a pal of mine for dosa masala, a fantastic Southern Indian dish which has a gram flour pancake filled with spicy potatoes and is served with 2 or 3 different sauces (for want of another  word).  I acquired a serious taste for dosa when I lived in Malaysia.  Well worth braving the cold for.

Have a fabulous weekend x

As I left to take H to school today a very big truck was arriving at the house and I was most intrigued to know what was going to be our latest delivery.  Well, here it is, lots and lots of insulation.  I am tempted to make myself a little den out of it because it has turned really cold here again and draughty is not the word for our place again.  Mum could feel a draught in a desert – I don’t think she’d like it here at the moment.

The en suite shower room is on its way out.  These are the before, we’ll get the after tomorrow when the wall is removed that adjoins the bathroom that was.  The last picture shows the old bathroom, you can hardly get in.

Lastly for now,  huge progress today,  the loo is working in the new bathroom, hooray. Yes, I’m keeping the cover on the seat, for ever if possible. The new bath will be up and running tomorrow. Only problem – there’s no light in there right now.  There’s always candlelight.  How delightful.

Off to collect every bed warming item I can find to keep us all cosy tonight.   Almost wishing I had a onesie!!

Day Three

The wind and sleet have been battering the house all day and those poor men have spent a huge proportion of it getting rid of insulation. Here’s what John Snr found when he opened the door to the stairs earlier today.

The floorboards have all been lifted and are to be sold, result. I thought about having them retained and replaced but I soon realised that would be very noisy and impractical particularily with it being upstairs.

The progress upstairs is steady, it’s looking good and is nearly completely stripped.

Other Stuff

H went to school today, she was not too happy, but I thought she’d be fine. Wrong, I got the call all parents dread from the school and soon she was home watching tv all cosied up on the sofa. She’s fine though. The funniest thing is that she’s starving hungry. Early to bed for her again.

Thought this was very sweet, they’ve never done this before.
