Day Sixteen

I left the subphotographer to record the proceedings today so I can’t really tell you how it went.  I’ll simply show you what’s happened in my absence.

It is so good to see some construction rather than destruction happening.  The dormer has really opened up the space at the front upstairs.  This window will be shared by the two front bedrooms.  Each bedroom will also have a Velux window.

It is a joy to report that today I finally finished ordering the downstairs bathroom.  I have spent far too much time deciding exactly what to have in it. Phew, I’m done.  We’re to have a bath, sink, toilet and a shower.  Pretty standard issue bathroom in the end, it was deciding which one of each particular item to choose that took the time.  There are so many variable factors that getting it all sorted is way more torturous than I remember from the last time we chose a bathroom.  Can you believe I spent an hour and a half at a builders’ merchant this afternoon to sort out the shower, enclosure and tray?  I thought I had it sorted before I went in!  Anyway, that’s a good job done and hopefully choosing the rest will be a cinch.

The subphotographer (my husband) thought you might like to know that he ran all the way home from Musselburgh yesterday. Pretty impressive. Ten miles – it took him an hour and a half and the best bit is he deliberately ran an extra few metres to make it the 10 miles exactly. Not bad eh!

Day Fourteen

That’s the end of the third week and what a difference.  The space for the stairs is nearly sorted, the prep for the front dormer has been done and as much of the floor as possible is down. The new megatank is in, we have hot water and heating for the weekend which is joyous.  We still have the bathroom to finalise and order and we are nearly there, I think.

Here are the daily progress photos, thanks to my inhouse photographer.

Other Stuff

What a fantastic day it has been in Edinburgh, sunny, bright and little wind.  We were at the Zoo today which was somewhere we went loads when the boys were little.  Towards the end of our membership I felt that every time we went there were fewer animals and things were going downhill.  We did not renew our membership. I am delighted to say my faith in the zoo has been completely restored today.   The pandas were first on our list and they were very entertaining to watch and totally lived up to the hype there’s been about them. Brilliant creatures.  The rest of the time was spent wandering up and down (if you’ve been there you’ll know what I mean), checking out the squirrel monkeys, rhinos, penguins and lots more too.  We had 6 children with us and they had a great time spotting the animals and we spent ages in the chimpanzee house watching our close relatives.  My friend and I debated the right and wrongs of keeping such intelligent apes in captivity while the children did the obligatory brass rubbings with the fantastically enthusiastic volunteers.  We now have the penguin.  I enjoyed it so much I’m considering getting a family membership again.

Wishing you all a great weekend x

Twitterland

So, I’ve played with Twitter and I think I might be missing something. Is  it just quick musings from anyone and everyone?   Hope so or I’ve really got a lot of catching up to do!

I’ve been looking at the plans again and trying to visualise our new upstairs, again. I think I can see it kind of.  My next goal is to organise my pinterest page so decorating my lovely new space will be a breeze.  That’s the theory anyway.

I have 2 boys who are in gamezone heaven since we moved the tv, x-box and chairs into the big room at the back. F hasn’t even taken his coat off.  I like that we are all in here doing our own things together.  I don’t like that we are all in our own wee techno worlds so I’m taking us out for a dog walk  to check out the new obstacles in the little park near us.  Funny, the boys don’t seem keen!  I’ll save pinterest for later.

Here are the boys…
