More invisible work today, in the photo taken from the front window you can see where the stairs will go on the left where there is a gap in the yellow wooden uprights. It may look pretty similar to earlier photos but I assure you there has been a lot of noise and that the joiner is beginning to ask critical questions about what goes where up there already. It is still very hard to visualise the end product but we can see where each room will be if you know where to look.

This weekend we’ve got to decide for sure what we want in the bathrooms and yes, you guessed, sort some stuff out yet again. Gumtree here i come…
Lots of activity today once the crew could actually get in, the contractor had to phone to check I was in because someone had disconnected the bell. Our bell is the loudest in Edinburgh, as some of you know, so I am not tuned in to gentle knocking on the front door especially when I’m going through the teeth, bag, gym kit routine. They got in and got on.
from the top of the stairs today, new uprights in
We no longer have a bathroom. Today the bathroom has gone from this….
bathroom just about beforebefore
to this..
just the loo left
This bathroom cabinet is the best ever, you can see the back of your hair and it has the most flattering light. It’s great for doing your face in too. It should be going in the skip since it is beginning to fall to bits but I am very tempted to keep it. I know what my husband will say.
H’s room is clear now, it was the perfect little room for a preschooler. She’s a big schoolgirl now. Time to move on, I’ll miss how cosy it is.
tidiest it’s ever been
This is the newly shared room, I guess I won’t see it as neat as this again. I wonder how long they will last sharing in harmony. Is that really cynical? They actually get on pretty well most of the time. Fingers crossed that they love sharing.

So, after another day emptying, moving and sorting what better way to unwind than having nearly banoffee pancakes for pudding? We have run out of jam, honey, maple syrup and nutella so this is what we had on our pancakes tonight. It is a View from the Table kind of ingredient – I wonder if Sarah has ever used it on pancakes. It is delicious, we sliced banana on top then rolled them up. Sadly, the banoffee pancakes were eaten before the camera came out so here is the jar instead. Yum
dulce de leche
Any other pancake topping ideas greatly received ready for pancake day next Tuesday.
A gold star goes to Sister Agnes who got yesterday’s wire puzzle correct. The random wires are for a heat sensor and, no, I cannot have it in a less obvious place.
Well, there was a lot of activity here again today with about 7 or 8 bodies on the job at one point, maybe more. Some of the steels are in and lots more invisible work has gone on with plumbing, electrics and joinery. I spent a while at another bathroom supplier today and the heat is on to get at least the bathroom sanitary ware organised. I’ve got a lovely big pile of catalogues to go through tonight. It is hard when you know what you don’t want but cannot see what you do want.
The first of tomorrow’s jobs is getting the front bedroom ready for H to move in with F. Wonder how that will go! We have got a plan B.
The current bathroom is where the new stairs are going. The new bathroom is going into H’s bedroom. It used to be the bathroom years ago so all the drainage and water supplies are there already. Moving all of H’s things out of her room is my other job. It is such a shame to get rid of H’s lovely wallpaper, it is the only room we have actually decorated so far. I will be sure to get a photo tomorrow for you. Maybe we’ll just keep the wallpaper for the bathroom. It’s called ‘What a Hoot’ by Harlequin in case you’re wondering.

Life sometimes throws some pretty tough days at you. Please have a thought or prayer for JB who had a major op today and is still in Intensive Care. He is 13 and his family have been friends since L was 3. His wee brother is one of F’s best friends. Thanks x
Makes any of my worries about the house seem so trivial.
